Plymouth Teeth Whitening Predator Posed as Therapist to Target Victims
Plymouth teeth whitening rapist jailed for 22 years

A dangerous serial rapist who transformed his Plymouth teeth whitening business into a hunting ground for vulnerable women has been sentenced to 22 years behind bars.

Joseph Cafferkey, 32, systematically targeted his victims under the guise of providing therapeutic treatments, using his city-centre salon as a facade of legitimacy while committing horrific sexual assaults.

The Chilling Modus Operandi

Operating from his supposedly professional establishment, Cafferkey employed sophisticated grooming techniques to identify and isolate vulnerable women. He deliberately sought out individuals experiencing personal difficulties, presenting himself as a trustworthy therapist who could offer both physical and emotional support.

"He was a calculated predator who weaponised his professional setting to exploit women at their most vulnerable," stated Detective Inspector Sarah Munday of Devon and Cornwall Police.

A Pattern of Systematic Abuse

The court heard how Cafferkey's crimes followed a disturbing pattern:

  • Initial contact through legitimate beauty treatments
  • Gradual escalation to offering 'therapeutic sessions'
  • Systematic breaking down of personal boundaries
  • Multiple sexual assaults committed on premises

His victims, who cannot be named for legal reasons, showed immense courage in coming forward, enabling police to build a comprehensive case against the predator.

Justice Served After Intensive Investigation

Following a complex investigation by Devon and Cornwall Police's specialist sexual offences team, Cafferkey was found guilty of multiple counts of rape and sexual assault at Plymouth Crown Court.

Judge Nicholas Rowland described Cafferkey as "a highly dangerous individual who poses a significant risk to women" and imposed an extended sentence of 22 years, with an additional 5 years on licence.

The successful prosecution sends a strong message that sexual predators operating under the cover of legitimate businesses will be relentlessly pursued by authorities.
