Kiran Kaur, the mother of Vickrum Digwa who murdered Henry Nowak, has been jailed for removing the murder weapon from the crime scene. The 53-year-old was sentenced at Southampton Crown Court on Friday for assisting an offender by taking the knife back to the family home on the night of the murder.
Background of the Crime
Kaur, of St Denys Road, Southampton, was found guilty by jurors who also convicted her son Vickrum Digwa of murder and carrying a knife in public following a trial in May. Digwa, 23, was jailed for life with a minimum term of 21 years on June 1 for the murder of 18-year-old finance student Henry Nowak on December 3 2025. Digwa had falsely claimed Mr Nowak racially abused him.
Sentencing Remarks
Sentencing Kaur, Judge William Mousley KC said: "A responsible parent would have challenged their son over their actions and encourage them to do the right thing. Instead you took the knife home and put it with a larger collection of ceremonial and other weapons in your son's bedroom. That would have helped to conceal what it had been used for."
Impact and Aftermath
The court heard that Kaur's actions hindered the initial investigation, but police eventually recovered the knife from the family home. The case has drawn attention to parental complicity in serious crimes. Henry Nowak's family expressed relief at the sentencing, stating that justice has been served for their son.
