Armed Police Respond to Bailie Grove Incident
Armed police were deployed to a housing estate in Edinburgh on Friday morning following reports of a man with a weapon. The incident occurred on Bailie Grove, where officers from Police Scotland, including specialist armed units, were dispatched around 11:30am on 17 July 2026.
Man Arrested, No Weapon Found
A 51-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident. Police confirmed that no weapon was recovered during the search of the area, and there were no reported injuries. Enquiries are ongoing, and a large police presence remains at the scene as searches continue.
Local Residents Watch On
Residents in the housing estate observed the police operation from their homes, with some witnessing armed officers conducting checks in gardens. One officer was seen carrying a shield while another stood guard with a rifle. Another clip showed two officers moving through a garden space, one holding a shield. Worried locals watched from just metres away, with some reportedly in their gardens when the armed police arrived.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: 'Around 11.35am on Friday, 17 July, 2026 officers received a report of a man with a weapon in the Bailie Grove area of Edinburgh. Officers, including specialist officers, attended and searches remain ongoing. No weapon has been recovered and there are no reported injuries. A 51-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries are ongoing.'
