A prison officer at one of Britain's largest prisons has been handed a 10-month prison sentence after being caught red-handed smuggling a mobile phone to an inmate in a serious security breach.

Casey Jarman, 26, was employed as a prison custody officer at HMP Berwyn in Wrexham when she attempted to pass the illicit device to a prisoner, undermining the facility's security protocols.

Jarman's illicit activities came to light during a targeted intelligence-led operation conducted by prison authorities. Suspicious of her behaviour, security staff monitored her movements closely.

On the day of her arrest, Jarman was observed entering the prison with the mobile phone concealed in her clothing. She was intercepted before she could successfully deliver the device to the intended inmate.

Appearing at Mold Crown Court, Jarman pleaded guilty to conveying a prohibited article into a prison. The court heard how she had abused her position of trust and compromised prison security.
