An urgent large-scale search operation is continuing in Hull after two men entered the River Hull while attempting to evade police on Friday evening.
Vehicle Pursuit Ends in Crash and Flight
Officers on patrol in Hull attempted to stop a vehicle for a routine check due to a defective rear light at approximately 8.25pm on Friday, 5 December. According to Humberside Police, the car failed to stop, leading to a short pursuit.
The chase concluded when the vehicle collided with a wall on Charlotte Street. The two male occupants then fled the scene on foot. It is believed they entered the waters of the nearby River Hull at around 8.30pm.
Major Multi-Agency Search Underway
Concern for the welfare of the two men prompted the immediate launch of a significant search effort. Detective Inspector Andy Crawforth, who is leading the investigation, stated the force is "extremely concerned for their welfare".
Specialist resources have been deployed to scour the area, including:
- Humberside Police patrol officers
- The Coastguard
- Humberside Fire and Rescue Service
- A police specialist underwater search team
Appeal for Information from Public
The incident has led to an increased police presence in the area over the weekend, particularly near a local college and several businesses. Detective Inspector Crawforth has made a direct appeal for public assistance.
"I would ask anyone who believes they know who these men are or who thinks that someone they know went missing yesterday evening to contact us immediately," he said.
He also urged anyone with potential evidence to come forward, including those with CCTV or doorbell footage from the Charlotte Street area around the time of the incident. Witnesses are asked to contact police on the non-emergency number 101, quoting log 461 of 5 December.
The extensive search and enquiries to locate and identify the two men remain ongoing.
