The police community is in mourning after the body of 28-year-old Rehaan Akhtar, an off-duty officer from South Wales Police, was recovered from Bristol's waters. The constable had been missing since a night out with friends in the city.

Details of the Disappearance

Rehaan Akhtar was last seen in the early hours of Sunday morning near the Arnolfini art gallery, which is adjacent to Bristol Harbourside. After he was reported missing, a search was launched by authorities. Divers subsequently recovered his body from the water.

Mr Akhtar, who was from Llanelli in Wales, had served his community with distinction. He began his career as a Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) in Cardiff in October 2021 before becoming a sworn police constable based in Swansea in September of the previous year.

Shock and Condolences from the Force

Chief Constable Jeremy Vaughan expressed his profound shock and sadness at the officer's sudden passing. He stated that Rehaan served with 'pride and professionalism' and was greatly respected by his colleagues and the public he met during his duties.

Avon and Somerset Police confirmed that his death is not being treated as suspicious and is currently considered unexplained. A file is being prepared for the coroner. The force thanked the public for their assistance and confirmed that specialist officers are supporting Rehaan's family.

Described as a talented footballer, Rehaan played for Calsonic Kansei Swiss Valley AFC (CKSV) in the West Wales Premier League. His club paid an emotional tribute, highlighting his commitment, positivity, and love for the game. Former clubs, including Trallwm Tigers FC and Llangennech AFC, also shared their heartfelt condolences, remembering him as a kind, humble, and impactful player.

Formal identification is still due to take place. Rehaan was described as being roughly 5ft 11ins tall, of muscular build, with short dark hair and a dark beard. He was last seen wearing a black Levi's top, grey cargo trousers, and a navy jumper. An inquest into his death will be held in due course.
