Mother Confronts Man Over Body-Shaming Comment to Teen Daughter
Mother Confronts Man for Body-Shaming Teen Daughter

A mother has been widely praised after she confronted a man who made an inappropriate comment to her teenage daughter at a bakery in Torquay, Victoria. The incident occurred on Saturday at Routley's Bakery, where the 14-year-old girl was buying lunch.

Confrontation Outside Bakery

The stranger remarked that the girl's food order would go directly to her hips. The teenager informed her mother, who then approached the man outside the bakery and asked, 'Is there a problem?' When the man replied 'No,' the mother pressed further: 'No? So you're not going to make any more comments about young girls' bodies while they're in a shop buying food?'

The man initially denied the comment was about the girl's body, but later admitted saying, 'It'll go straight to your hips,' while attempting to shield his face. He insisted he was not referring to her body, but the mother accused him of body shaming. 'You're in a public place and you're making comments to strangers,' she added.

Public Reaction

The man claimed the mother lacked a sense of humour and noted he had no daughters. 'Well, I'm glad that you don't, because it's actually a revolting comment to make to a young girl,' she retorted. After he apologised, he accused her of being overprotective, which sparked further anger.

The mother continued, 'You should be sorry and learn that when you're out in public and someone's buying food, you need not make a comment about young people's bodies.' She concluded, 'I just think that you're a bit of a pig of a man who saw a young girl wearing workout gear and decided to make a comment about food that she was buying.'

The mother shared the video online, where it quickly went viral. Thousands of viewers commended her for calling out the man's behaviour. A father commented, 'As a male and a father to a daughter, this guy makes my blood boil. Well done for speaking up.' High-profile Australians also expressed support, including Dr Kate Adams, Myf Warhurst, and Yvie Jones.

Mother's Follow-Up

The next day, the mother posted a follow-up thanking everyone for their support. 'I didn't expect my video to reach as far as it did but I'm genuinely overwhelmed by the support, kindness and messages of encouragement,' she wrote. She added that her daughter was 'doing just fine' and surrounded by love and protection. 'Let me be very clear - I will always protect her loudly and unapologetically from anyone who even thinks about crossing that line.'
