A Danish police officer and two other people were shot on Friday after responding to a reported fire in Nørresundby, a city in the North Jutland region of northern Denmark. One civilian has died, according to a police statement on Facebook. The injured officer is in stable condition, while the suspect is seriously wounded, authorities said.
Police Respond to Fire, Met with Gunfire
Police received a report of a fire in an industrial area of Nørresundby at 1:39 p.m. local time and rushed to the scene, Danish broadcaster DR reported. Upon arrival, officers were met with gunshots, police said. They returned fire. It remains unclear whether the police officer was shot by the suspect or injured by friendly fire. The identity of the third injured person and who shot them is also unknown.
Shooting Treated as Isolated Incident
Police are investigating the motive but said they are treating the shooting as an isolated incident. The shooting concluded by 3 p.m., but the investigation continues, DR reported. A column of black smoke was visible in photos and video from the scene. Fire crews are present, and emergency services are expected to remain on site for several hours. The area has been cordoned off with roadblocks in place, and residents were warned to avoid the area and follow police instructions.
