A Coventry man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for a series of 'horrendous' sexual offences against children. Nathan Potts, 26, of Burnaby Road, was convicted of two counts of child rape, four counts of sexual assault, inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and sex with another adult.
Potts is one of six members of the same family sentenced for offences against children. He will serve at least two-thirds of his sentence before being considered for parole, followed by eight years on licence.
His brother Joshua Potts, 25, also of Burnaby Road, pleaded guilty to three rapes and four sexual assaults in May and was jailed for 16 years, with a minimum of 10 years. Their half-brother Anthony Potts, 49, of Milverton Road, received a minimum 16-year term for 13 rapes, three sexual assaults, and other offences against children aged two to 15 over three decades.
The men's father Keith Potts, 67, and mother Julie Potts, 60, both of Burnaby Road, were jailed for eight and seven years respectively for cruelty to children. Anthony Potts' wife Elaine Potts, 50, and friend Joanna Hoye, 42, each received four-year sentences for neglect.
West Midlands Police described the case as 'one of the worst' it had dealt with. The presiding judge, with 50 years of legal experience, said he could not recall a 'worse' case. Detective Sergeant Rachel Gregory called it 'one of the worst cases of systematic and horrifying child sexual abuse' she had ever seen. All victims have been safeguarded and are receiving support.
