Exclusive: Brandy-Fuelled Samurai Sword Rampage Leaves Neighbour in 'Genuine Distress'
Horrifying footage has captured the moment a blood-soaked Japanophile wielded a samurai sword on his neighbour's doorstep, in what a judge described as causing "mayhem" and "genuine distress". Jan Dziedzic, 36, was making a Christmas cake at his flat in Belvedere, South London, when he became intoxicated on brandy and embarked on a terrifying rampage with the weapon.
The Terrifying Incident Unfolds
On November 11 last year, Dziedzic left his property while heavily under the influence of alcohol, carrying a black-hilted samurai sword. Video evidence from his neighbour's Ring camera shows him covered in blood, with wounds visible on his face, as he waved the sword at her door. The footage reveals him hitting the door with the weapon, blood streaming down his green t-shirt, while wearing headphones throughout the ordeal.
At one point in the minute-long clip, Dziedzic crouches into a defensive position, holding the sword aloft, before shouting unintelligibly at the camera and slamming the door to the flat complex hallway. He left the scene after approximately thirty seconds, having never directly interacted with the neighbour, with whom he was merely on "speaking terms".
Court Proceedings and Sentencing
Dziedzic pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including:
- Affray
- Criminal damage
- Possessing a bladed article in public
Judge Ruth Downing, presiding over the case, expressed deep concern over Dziedzic's behaviour, stating she was "troubled" by the actions of the Japanese culture enthusiast. During sentencing on Monday, she emphasised the impact on the victim, saying, "You were covered in blood and no doubt to your neighbours, decent human beings, this was an alarming sight. Your neighbour suffered genuine distress. Why should she have to go through that?"
The judge imposed a custodial sentence of one year, noting she felt compelled to offer imprisonment due to the severity of the incident. Dziedzic will be required to serve at least six months before being released on licence.
Aftermath and Personal Reactions
In court, Dziedzic claimed to have no memory of the night but expressed mortification and appall upon viewing the footage. Judge Downing implored him to seek assistance to address the underlying reasons for his actions, urging him to understand why he caused such "mayhem".
The Crown Prosecution Service shared the video evidence, which played a crucial role in the trial, highlighting the alarming nature of the event. This case underscores the dangers of alcohol-fuelled violence and the traumatic effects on innocent bystanders, with the victim left deeply distressed by the blood-soaked confrontation at her doorstep.
