A spokesperson for Cleveland Police stated: “Just after 8pm yesterday evening officers were called by ambulance service colleagues to an alleyway between Dale Street and Arthur Terrace in New Marske where they were tending to a man who had sustained serious injuries in what we believe was a violent assault. Very sadly just over an hour later the man was pronounced deceased at the scene.”
Scene Investigation and Community Impact
Police have established a large cordon at the location, with a blue forensic tent erected in the alleyway. Forensic markers have been placed, and specialist officers in hazmat suits are conducting a thorough examination of the area. The investigation is ongoing, with formal identification of the victim pending.
The North East Ambulance Service dispatched multiple crews, including two double-crewed ambulances, a specialist paramedic, and a clinical team leader, supported by the Great North Air Ambulance medical car. Neighbours expressed shock at the incident in what is typically a quiet residential area.
Witness Accounts and Police Appeal
Local residents reported hearing shouting prior to the arrival of emergency services. Jack Bognar, 25, mentioned that his partner Chloe Mitchell, 22, alerted him after hearing disturbances. Another neighbour described returning home to find the street filled with police vehicles, while Bruce Holloway, 54, a lifelong resident, stated he had never witnessed such an event in the area before.
Police have urged the public not to speculate online and have appealed for anyone with information, doorbell footage, dash cam recordings, or private CCTV to come forward. They can contact Cleveland Police on 101, quoting reference 042669, or provide anonymous tips to Crimestoppers.
The force added: “While we understand this incident will have caused concern in the local community, at this stage we believe it to be an isolated and targeted event. Police will remain in the area progressing enquiries as well as providing a reassuring presence to residents.”
