A mother and her young son have tragically died after encountering difficulties in the water at a park in west London, according to police.

Incident at Elthorne Park

The Metropolitan Police reported that officers were dispatched to Elthorne Park in Ealing shortly before 4:30 PM on Saturday, where a woman and a child were retrieved from the water. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have stated that an investigation is currently ongoing, but the deaths are not being treated as suspicious. Efforts are underway to locate and inform the next of kin of the deceased.

Police Statement

Detective Superintendent Pete Thackray, from the Met's west area command unit, expressed condolences, saying: "This is a tragic incident in which a woman and her young child have lost their lives. Our thoughts are with their loved ones." He also acknowledged the efforts of first responders and members of the public who attempted to assist in the challenging situation. While the investigation continues, initial indications suggest the circumstances are not suspicious.

Local councillor Jon Ball, a Liberal Democrat representative for Ealing Common, shared his sympathies on social media, writing: "My thoughts go out to the family of those involved in the tragic accident in Elthorne Park today."
