Police have launched an investigation after a man was discovered dead inside a room at the Malmaison Hotel in Liverpool city centre on Friday afternoon.
Emergency Response at City Centre Hotel
Merseyside Police and other emergency services were called to the upscale hotel on William Jessop Way at approximately 2.55pm on Friday, 16 January 2026. The call concerned reports of a sudden death.
Officers attended the scene, where a man, believed to be in his 40s, was pronounced dead. A police presence remained at the location into the evening, with four police vehicles reportedly stationed outside.
Hotel Guests Disrupted as Enquiries Continue
The incident caused significant disruption within the hotel. One guest reported being unable to access their room on one of the floors due to the ongoing police activity.
When approached for comment, a member of staff at the Malmaison Hotel stated they were "unable to comment" due to the "ongoing police investigation."
Police Statement on the Investigation
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police provided an official statement confirming the details. "We can confirm that emergency services are in Liverpool city centre following the unexpected death of a man this afternoon, Friday, January 16," they said.
The statement continued: "At around 2.55pm, officers were called to the Malmaison Hotel on William Jessop Way to reports of a man in his 40s being sadly found deceased. Enquiries are ongoing at the scene and there are not initially believed to be any suspicious circumstances."
While the investigation remains active to establish the full circumstances, police have indicated they are not treating the death as suspicious at this early stage.
