A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a man in a suspected assault in New Marske, North Yorkshire, on Friday night. Emergency services were called to an alleyway between Dale Street and Arthur Terrace shortly after 8pm after reports of a man with serious injuries.
Police Confirm Fatal Incident
Cleveland Police confirmed that the man was pronounced dead at the scene just over an hour later. A 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody for questioning, according to reports from Teeside Live.
Forensic Investigation Underway
A blue forensic tent was erected in the alleyway, and crime scene investigators in white hazmat suits arrived on Saturday afternoon to conduct a thorough examination. The North East Ambulance Service dispatched two double-crewed ambulances, a specialist paramedic, and a clinical team leader, supported by the Great North Air Ambulance medical car.
Police Appeal for Information
Cleveland Police have urged the public not to speculate or comment online as enquiries are in their early stages. Officers will remain in the area to progress investigations and provide reassurance to residents. A spokesperson stated, "The man’s next of kin have been informed and our thoughts remain with them at this extremely difficult time. Extensive enquiries into the circumstances surrounding his death are underway."
Authorities believe the incident to be an isolated and targeted event, aiming to alleviate community concerns. Formal identification of the victim will take place in due course.
