A 33-year-old man has been arrested in the Netherlands on suspicion of plotting to attack Princess Amalia, the heir to the Dutch throne, and her sister Princess Alexia with axes in what was described as a planned 'bloodbath'. The suspect is scheduled to appear in court next week following his arrest in connection with the alleged plot, which authorities say took place in February in The Hague.
Details of the Alleged Plot
According to a scheduling order from the court, the suspect was found in early February in possession of two axes with the words 'Alexia', 'Mossad', and 'Sieg Heil' carved into them. Additionally, he allegedly had a handwritten sheet that included the names 'Amalia' and 'Alexia' alongside the word 'Bloodbath'. The exact location and timing of the arrest have not been disclosed by officials.
Legal Proceedings and Privacy
The suspect's name has not been released, adhering to Dutch privacy regulations. A spokesperson for The Hague public prosecutor's office declined to provide further details ahead of the procedural hearing scheduled for Monday. The Royal House of the Netherlands has not yet responded to requests for comment on the matter.
Previous Threats Against Princess Amalia
This is not the first time Princess Amalia has faced threats. In 2022, she was forced to abandon her student life in Amsterdam and return to live with her parents at the palace due to threats believed to originate from the criminal underworld, specifically the so-called 'Mocro Maffia', a Moroccan Mafia faction operating in the Netherlands that is thought to control about one-third of Europe's cocaine traffic.
Queen Maxima commented at the time that Amalia 'can't leave home' and that the situation has had 'enormous consequences for her life'. The princess subsequently spent several months living in Madrid, where she later honoured the city and its citizens by opening a tulip garden in gratitude for their hospitality.
Earlier Conviction for Threats
In 2020, a man named Wouter G. was convicted for threatening the then-16-year-old princess via Instagram. He sent messages threatening sexual and physical abuse, including one that read, 'Yes girl, there is no escaping it.' Wouter G., who suffers from schizophrenia, was sentenced to three months in prison and four years in a psychiatric facility.
