West Mercia Police have confirmed the arrest of a 23-year-old man on suspicion of rape following an alleged attack on a woman in a Worcester alleyway during daylight hours.
The incident is reported to have occurred in The Tything area between 6am and 8:30am on Saturday morning. Officers responded to the scene after the victim came forward, and a man was subsequently taken into custody, where he remains as investigations continue.
Detective Inspector Lisa Tibbits stated: “I understand that an incident of this nature will cause significant concern within the community, and I want to reassure the public that a thorough investigation is currently underway. We are appealing for anyone who may have information, no matter how minor it may seem, to come forward and assist our enquiries.”
Specially trained officers are providing support to the victim, while additional patrols have been deployed in the area to reassure residents and conduct further inquiries.
