IT Worker and Brother Seriously Injured in Alleged Machete Attack at Blyth Home
An IT worker and his brother have been left with severe injuries following an alleged machete attack at their home in Blyth, Northumberland. Paul Boomer, 53, and his younger brother Kyle, 33, were both hospitalised after the violent incident, which occurred on the evening of February 16.
Brother's Hand Nearly Severed in Brutal Assault
Kyle Boomer, a delivery driver who had been lodging with his brother, reportedly screamed "they've cut my hand off" during the attack. His hand was sliced almost all the way around, with Paul describing how the bottom half was dangling and it appeared as though it had been amputated. Kyle remains hospitalised with limited sensation in his hand, though doctors believe he is extremely fortunate not to have lost it completely.
Home Invasion on Twentieth Avenue
The attack unfolded at Paul's residence on Twentieth Avenue in Blyth. Paul was upstairs watching television with his girlfriend, Debra Clark, when they heard the door and then Kyle's screams. Upon rushing downstairs, Paul alleges he was confronted by two intruders, one brandishing a machete, before being attacked multiple times with the large blade.
Debra Clark witnessed the assault and immediately dialled for an ambulance. She also attempted to assist Kyle by applying a towel to his severely wounded hand in an effort to keep it attached while waiting for emergency services to arrive.
Injuries and Hospital Treatment
Both brothers were rushed to hospital for treatment. Paul received stitches for facial and back injuries before being discharged. Kyle required more extensive medical attention and remained in hospital after his brother's release. Northumbria Police confirmed that both men sustained injuries consistent with a bladed weapon, but these were not believed to be life-threatening.
Police Investigation and Arrest
Northumbria Police have launched an investigation into the disturbance. A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault (GBH with intent) and has since been released on police bail. Authorities believe those involved were known to each other, though enquiries remain ongoing.
A police spokeswoman stated: "At about 8.15pm on Monday, February 16, we received a report of a disturbance at an address in the Twentieth Avenue area of Blyth. Emergency services attended where it was discovered two men had sustained injuries consistent with having been inflicted by a bladed weapon."
Victim's Shock and Appeal for Witnesses
Paul Boomer, who works in IT, expressed his shock at the violent incident, stating: "I work in IT. I get up at 7am, I go to work, I come home and have my tea and I'm in bed by 9.30pm. This isn't my world."
Police are now urging any witnesses to come forward and contact them with information, quoting reference number NP-20260216-0981.
