Body believed to be alleged triple murderer Julian Ingram found near abandoned ute in ‘decomposed st

A body found in a decomposed state next to an abandoned ute in New South Wales is believed to be Julian Ingram, the man accused of killing his pregnant former partner, her new boyfriend and her aunt in January. Police discovered the vehicle at Round Hill nature reserve on Monday, about 50km north-west of Lake Cargelligo, where the triple murder took place.

Ingram, 37, also known as Julian Pierpoint, was on bail for alleged domestic violence offences when he allegedly shot Sophie Quinn, 32, John Harris, 32, and Nerida Quinn, 50, on 22 January. Quinn was seven months pregnant. A large-scale manhunt involving hundreds of police officers had been under way since the killings.

Assistant commissioner Andrew Holland said the body was found next to a firearm and appeared to have been there for some time. Formal identification and cause of death are pending. “For the last four months … the manhunt for Julian Ingram has not given up,” Holland said. “It brings closure to this investigation, it brings closure to the people of Lake Cargelligo.”

Police had offered a $250,000 reward for information leading to Ingram’s arrest and had searched 60,000 acres of land, with another 600,000 acres still to cover. Holland previously said Ingram may have been supported by someone in the community. The investigation into how police handled the case, including the decision to grant bail, is under review by the police watchdog.
