Human Remains Discovered in Search for Kidnapped Sydney Grandfather
New South Wales police have made a grim discovery in the search for missing 85-year-old Chris Baghsarian, with detectives locating what they believe to be human remains near a golf club in Pitt Town on Tuesday morning.
The remains were found at approximately 8am, marking a tragic turn in the investigation that began when Baghsarian was abducted from his home in North Ryde on Friday, February 13th.
Mistaken Identity in Kidnapping Case
Police have confirmed that Baghsarian, a widowed grandfather, was not the intended target of the kidnapping. Early inquiries established that he was taken in a case of mistaken identity, adding a layer of complexity to the investigation.
Officers received reports of the abduction just after 5am on February 13th, prompting an extensive search across Sydney's outskirts.
Forensic Evidence and Ongoing Searches
On Monday, police revealed that forensic evidence linked to Baghsarian had been found in a burnt-out grey Toyota Corolla discovered in Westmead last Tuesday. This discovery led to searches in bushland and other areas for further clues.
Acting Detective Superintendent Andrew Marks has urged the public to come forward with any footage or information related to the vehicle, which is believed to have been used in the crime.
Marks also noted that evidence from the car was linked to an abandoned and derelict property in Dural, where it is suspected Baghsarian was held at some point after his kidnapping.
Investigation Continues Amid Fading Hopes
Despite the discovery of the remains, NSW police have stated that investigations into Baghsarian's disappearance are ongoing. The search had previously included areas of Glenorie on Monday, as hopes for a safe recovery began to fade.
Authorities are working to confirm the identity of the remains and piece together the events leading up to Baghsarian's abduction. The community remains on alert as detectives pursue all leads in this distressing case.
