Florida Man Charged in Dating App Kidnapping and Strangulation

A Florida man has been arrested and charged with multiple serious offences after allegedly kidnapping and strangling a woman he met through a dating application, having lured her to his Miami apartment while her young daughter was present.

Charges and Arrest Details

Saady Castellanos Triminio, aged 34, was taken into custody on Saturday and charged with false imprisonment, battery by strangulation, robbery, and child neglect. According to an arrest affidavit reviewed by Daily Mail, Triminio met the unidentified victim via the Facebook dating app, where they communicated for approximately two weeks before arranging an in-person meeting.

The Lure to Miami

The victim, who resides in Orlando, stated that Triminio offered to purchase Brightline train tickets for her and her three-year-old daughter to travel to Miami, a journey of about three hours, so they could meet face-to-face and celebrate his birthday together. She arrived in Miami on Friday evening, expecting they would dine at a restaurant, but instead, Triminio bought a pizza and escorted the woman and her child to his residence.

Upon arrival, the victim reported feeling uneasy about the situation and was hesitant to remain due to the poor condition of the home, noting a lack of toilet paper in the bathroom and describing it as generally dirty. Despite her reservations, she decided to stay and converse with Triminio until he requested a kiss and a hug.

Escalation of Violence

When she declined, explaining they were still getting to know each other, Triminio allegedly became irate and told her not to leave, claiming it was too dangerous. He then bear-hugged her, physically preventing her from exiting the room. The woman began texting a friend for help, at which point Triminio allegedly seized her mobile phone.

The victim started screaming for assistance, prompting Triminio to cover her mouth and nose with his hand to stifle her cries, causing her to struggle to breathe, as detailed in the affidavit. Eventually, he released her, allowing her to retrieve her phone and barricade herself with her daughter in a separate room until police arrived.

Aftermath and Legal Proceedings

Officers noted visible bruises on both of the victim's arms, though she declined medical assistance at the scene. Triminio was subsequently arrested and is currently held at the Miami-Dade County Jail on a $7,500 bond. Jail records indicate he also has an immigration hold in place.

Police Warning on Online Safety

In response to this incident, the Miami Police Chief emphasised the importance of caution when meeting individuals online. He stated that society often places excessive reliance on social media platforms and dating applications, which carries inherent risks. "You really don't know somebody until you meet them, right? Not on an app, but in person. So you should be guarded until the time that they're able to earn your trust," he advised, highlighting the need for vigilance in digital interactions.
