Federal authorities in Miami have opened an investigation following the tragic death of a passenger aboard a Carnival cruise ship that returned to port over the weekend. The incident occurred on the Carnival Horizon, a vessel capable of carrying nearly 4,000 passengers on Caribbean voyages.
Ship Returns to Miami as Planned
The Carnival Horizon completed its journey and docked at PortMiami on Saturday morning according to its scheduled itinerary. Carnival Cruise Line confirmed the passenger's death occurred during the voyage but provided no immediate details about the circumstances.
In an official statement, the cruise company emphasised their primary concern was supporting the bereaved family while fully cooperating with investigating authorities. "Our focus is on supporting the family of our guest and cooperating with the FBI," the company stated.
FBI Miami Takes Lead Role
The FBI Miami office has taken charge of the investigation, with spokesperson James Marshall confirming their response team attended the scene upon the ship's arrival. Marshall indicated that no further information would be released at this early stage of the inquiry.
Carnival Cruise Line reiterated its commitment to assisting both the grieving family and federal investigators as they work to determine the facts surrounding this unfortunate incident aboard one of their flagship vessels.
