Dashcam Shows Couple's Brave Bondi Attack Confrontation

Dashcam footage has revealed the moment Boris Gurman, 69, and Sofia Gurman, 61, attempted to disarm the Bondi beach attacker, Sajid Akram, before being killed. The couple, identified by their family, were among 15 victims in Sunday's terror attack.

The footage, posted on Chinese social media platform Rednote, shows Boris tackling Akram on Campbell Parade and wrestling a gun from him, with Sofia also involved. The couple were later found motionless together on the footpath, as seen in drone footage.

Boris, a retired mechanic, and Sofia, an Australia Post worker, were described by their family as 'the heart of our family' who 'instinctively and selflessly tried to help others'. Their 35th wedding anniversary was approaching in January.

The attack, which occurred during a Hanukah celebration, is the worst mass shooting in Australia since the 1996 Port Arthur massacre. Thirty-eight people were wounded, with 24 still in hospital as of Tuesday.

Other bystanders, including Ahmed al-Ahmed, have been praised for their bravery. Ahmed, who was thanked by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and US President Donald Trump, remains in critical condition after being shot multiple times.
