Escaped detainee Marwan Jumaa is 'danger to females': police

Greater Manchester Police have issued an urgent warning that Marwan Jumaa, a 20-year-old Sudanese national who absconded from lawful custody, poses a significant threat to women. Detective Superintendent Amber Waywell stated: "He's a danger to the public, he's a danger to females," highlighting that his original offences targeted women.

Escape and background

Jumaa escaped after being transferred from a secure hospital facility to North Manchester General Hospital for medical treatment. He was serving an indefinite sentence in a secure hospital following convictions for two robberies that left two women and police officers with serious injuries.

Police have deployed specialist resources, including the Force Critical Wanted Unit (FCWU), and are collaborating with partner agencies to locate him. Despite the urgency, authorities have no evidence suggesting he has specific targets or plans for imminent harm.

Last known movements and description

Jumaa was last seen in the Radcliffe area on Tuesday evening. He is described as a black male with a slim build, short dark hair, and approximately 5ft 10in tall. He is believed to have connections to Bury, Prestwich, Crumpsall in Greater Manchester, as well as London and West Yorkshire.

Detective Superintendent Waywell urged the public not to approach him: "We don't want anybody to approach Jumaa in any way, shape or form. If they see him or think they have seen him, then we will go out. We would rather have ten false calls to get the one right one."

Police response and public appeal

Officers are working around-the-clock to recapture Jumaa. "We are undertaking extensive work in our search for Jumaa, utilising all necessary resources and officers in order to return him to lawful custody," Waywell said. She acknowledged public concern but assured that dedicated teams are searching. Anyone who sees Jumaa should call 999 immediately, quoting log 3544 of 14 July 2026. Police note he may require medical assistance and should not be approached.
