Edinburgh Airport Bomb Scare Causes Evacuation and Delays

Passengers are facing long queues at Edinburgh Airport after parts of the terminal building were evacuated on Friday evening following a bomb scare. An explosive ordnance disposal squad was deployed after Police Scotland described a "potentially suspicious package" discovered at about 6.50pm on Friday. A cordon was put in place and nearby roads were closed before police confirmed on Saturday morning that the incident was not being treated as suspicious.

Reopening and Ongoing Disruption

The airport announced it had reopened at approximately 3am on Saturday but warned of knock-on disruption throughout the day. Passengers arriving on Saturday faced long queues stretching outside the terminal building.

In a statement, the airport said: "Following investigations by specialist teams, the airport has now reopened. We recognise the frustration this incident will have caused and thank everyone for their patience and understanding - safety will always come first. This incident will have knock-on impacts throughout today and staff are working hard to address these and support passengers. Operational teams are continuing to work to restore normal services as quickly as possible. Please check with your airline for the latest information on your flight."
