Miracle Escape After Car Plunges Down Staircase

A Brazilian driver has experienced what many are calling a miraculous survival after his vehicle swerved off a road and plunged down a steep flight of steps in São Paulo. Railson Souza, 48, emerged from the terrifying incident with nothing more than a scratch on his finger, despite his car being completely wrecked.

The Terrifying Morning Incident

The extraordinary event occurred at approximately 5:30am on Saturday in the Jardim Apura neighbourhood of São Paulo. Security footage captured the moment Souza's car left the road and began its dramatic descent down the pedestrian staircase, flying through the air before landing upside down.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, with firefighters working to free Souza from the twisted wreckage of his overturned vehicle. An ambulance then transported him to hospital for thorough medical examination.

Photographs of the severely damaged car revealed extensive destruction, particularly on the driver's side, which had borne the brunt of the impact as the vehicle rolled onto its roof and continued down the staircase at speed.

Medical Miracle and Emotional Aftermath

In what doctors described as extraordinary, comprehensive scans and X-rays showed that Souza had not broken a single bone and sustained no significant injuries beyond minor soreness from the violent shaking during the crash.

Speaking emotionally about his survival, Souza fought back tears while watching footage of the accident. "God is marvellous," he stated. "I'm only sore because it shook a lot, but nothing broke. The only thing that happened was a tiny scratch on my hand, nothing more."

The security worker was released from hospital within hours of admission, astonishing medical staff with his virtually unscathed condition.

Investigation Rules Out Common Causes

Police authorities confirmed that Souza had passed both drink and drug tests following the accident, completely ruling out alcohol or narcotics as contributing factors to the incident.

Souza explained to local media that he believes a medical episode may have caused the accident. He revealed he had forgotten to take his high blood pressure medication before driving home from work and had been experiencing a severe headache.

"I had a bad headache and was thinking: 'I'll get home and take a shower, take the medicine, and sleep,'" Souza told Brazilian TV programme SPTV. "All I remember about the accident is being down at the bottom of the steps and someone saying: 'Railson, calm down, Railson.'"

The footage suggests Souza may have fainted at the wheel, showing the vehicle heading straight toward the staircase rather than negotiating the bend in the road that would have kept him safe.

The crash destroyed metal railings on the staircase, leaving them in pieces scattered across the steps. Remarkably, no pedestrians were on the staircase at the time of the early morning incident.

Social media users expressed both relief and amazement at Souza's survival. Rita Muniz commented: "Thanks God he survived unharmed and no-one was on those steps at the time." Another user, Nair Guedes, added: "I wish Railson a long life. God does perform miracles. It looks like something out of a film."

Souza remains convinced that divine intervention played a role in his survival, emotionally stating: "I try to find an explanation and the explanation is God. It was God that protected me at that moment, me and my family, so that I could be here today."
