Deputy survives 50ft plunge after overpass crash

In a heart-stopping incident that unfolded over a Houston highway, a Harris County deputy sheriff is lucky to be alive after his patrol vehicle was struck, catapulting him over the edge of an overpass.

Deputy Andrew Cavasos was on duty, parked on the Hardy Toll Road overpass above Interstate 610, when a white Chevrolet Silverado collided with his cruiser. The impact was so severe it sent the patrol car careening through the guardrail.

The vehicle came to a rest precariously suspended 50 feet in the air, leaving Cavasos trapped inside and dangling above the traffic below. Bystander and official footage captures the terrifying scene, with the car's front end smashed through the barrier and its rear wheels still on the overpass.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene for a delicate rescue operation. Firefighters worked meticulously to stabilise the vehicle and extract the deputy from the wreckage. He was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Miraculously, officials confirmed that Deputy Cavasos sustained no life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet, whose actions caused the crash, remained at the scene and is reported to be cooperating with the ongoing investigation into the shocking accident.
