A shocking stabbing incident occurred on a coach travelling along the M6 Toll near Cannock in Staffordshire on Sunday morning, resulting in a man being stabbed in the shoulder and another arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
Violent Attack on Moving Coach
Staffordshire Police were called at approximately 8.15am on Sunday, February 15, to reports of a stabbing on a coach travelling southbound on the M6 Toll between junctions T8 and T7. The victim, a male passenger, sustained a knife wound to his shoulder during the violent altercation while the vehicle was in motion.
Police Response and Arrest
Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene, with paramedics treating the injured man before transporting him to hospital. Authorities have confirmed his condition remains stable and his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Police arrested a 41-year-old man from Northumberland at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder. The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the attack.
Road Closure and Reopening
The M6 Toll was temporarily closed in both directions to allow police to secure the scene and conduct initial investigations. The closure caused significant traffic disruption, with travel times increasing by approximately ten minutes on the southbound approach from the M54.
Traffic monitoring service Inrix reported delays on the M6 southbound before junction 8 with the M5, though the route has since been fully reopened to motorists following the completion of police work at the scene.

The incident has raised concerns about safety on long-distance coach services, particularly on major motorway routes where emergency response can be complicated by traffic conditions and limited access points.
Witnesses to the incident or anyone with relevant information are being urged to contact Staffordshire Police as investigations into this serious assault continue.
