Chicago Woman Allegedly Kills Uber Eats Driver, Then Taunts Him on Facebook

A Chicago woman with an extensive criminal history has been charged with murder after allegedly killing an Uber Eats driver during a carjacking, then posting a mocking message about the incident on her Facebook page just hours later. Montoya Perry, 33, is accused of fatally running over Daniel Figueroa, 28, outside Loretto Hospital in the early hours of Monday morning.

Social Media Taunt Follows Alleged Murder

In a since-deleted Facebook post that was first shared by CWB Chicago and later flagged by WGNTV, Perry wrote: 'The s*** we had to do to get home is crazy, but we made it. & if u missing a car, u can come get it!!. We don't want it!!' This chilling message appeared to reference the stolen vehicle and the violent events that had just transpired.

Details of the Fatal Carjacking

According to Chicago officials, Figueroa had left his Dodge Caravan running outside the hospital while he delivered food inside. Prosecutors state that Perry climbed into the driver's seat with two accomplices. When Figueroa returned and attempted to reclaim his vehicle by grabbing the passenger door handle, Perry allegedly accelerated, dragging him along the ground before running him over with the rear tires.

Figueroa was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The medical examiner's office conducted an autopsy on Tuesday, but results were inconclusive, and a cause of death has not yet been made public.

Arrest and Investigation

Later that same morning, license plate cameras tracked Figueroa's van to the Maywood area. Police observed Perry exiting another vehicle and entering the stolen van while wearing the same clothes seen in hospital surveillance footage. When officers moved in, Perry fled on foot but was taken into custody. Police report that she admitted to taking Figueroa's vehicle.

On Wednesday, a judge ordered Perry held without bail pending trial on charges of first-degree murder and vehicular hijacking.

Extensive Criminal History Revealed

Court records reveal that Perry has eight prior felony convictions dating back to 2010, including:

  • Aggravated robbery in 2014, resulting in a seven-year prison term for robbing and beating a pedestrian
  • Forgery and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon in 2023, with a three-year prison sentence
  • Evading police at speeds of 90 miles per hour in 2011
  • Multiple convictions for possession of a stolen motor vehicle, burglary, and retail theft

At the time of Monday's incident, Perry was out on pre-trial release for another offense that occurred just two weeks earlier, according to ABC7. Court records show she has a pattern of posting bond and failing to appear for hearings, with nine previous cases having been dismissed.

Previous Social Media Posts About Incarceration

In May of last year, Perry shared a previous jailhouse mugshot on her own social media, comparing being in and out of jail to feeling 'like a trampoline.' This pattern of behavior continued with her recent Facebook post about the carjacking.

Victim's Girlfriend Speaks Out

In an emotional interview with ABC, Sandra Guerrero, Figueroa's girlfriend, revealed that her partner was on his last delivery before returning home for her son's birthday celebration. 'I'm confused. I'm lost. I'm sad. I don't know what to do,' Guerrero said. 'I shouldn't have to picture my boyfriend like that. Somebody who I wanted to marry.'

Guerrero added, 'Today, it's my son's birthday. We had the whole day planned out for him to spend it with him. And it, just, I can't believe it right now.'

No other arrests have been made in connection with Figueroa's death at this time. The investigation continues as authorities work to identify and apprehend Perry's two accomplices.
