CCTV Released in Tottenham Murder Case of Mistaken Identity

Detectives investigating the fatal shooting of a young father in what is believed to be a case of mistaken identity have released new CCTV footage, eight months after the tragic incident. The Metropolitan Police are appealing for witnesses and have announced a substantial reward for information.

A Fatal Attack in Tottenham

Mahad Abdi Mohammed, aged 27, was killed after being shot in the head on Waverley Road in Tottenham. The attack occurred at approximately 8:45pm on Thursday, 20 March. Emergency services rushed to the scene following reports that two men had been shot.

Mr Mohammed and a 26-year-old companion were having breakfast outside when a stolen Mitsubishi Outlander approached their location. Suspects emerged from the vehicle and opened fire before fleeing the scene. The second victim sustained a gunshot wound to the leg. The Mitsubishi was later discovered burnt-out in nearby Runcorn Close the following morning.

The Hunt for the Suspects' Vehicles

As part of their extensive investigation, which has involved reviewing over 6,000 hours of CCTV footage, officers have now released a clip showing a stolen blue Jaguar. Police believe this car was used to transport the gunmen to and from the Mitsubishi Outlander used in the attack.

Images of one of the suspects have also been made public. In connection with the murder, four men were arrested in March and April. They have since been released on bail pending further enquiries.

A £20,000 Reward and Emotional Appeals

On the eight-month anniversary of Mr Mohammed's death, detectives, in partnership with the independent charity Crimestoppers, are offering a £20,000 reward for information that leads to the identification, arrest, and prosecution of those responsible. The reward is available for three months and will expire on 20 March 2026.

Leading the investigation, Detective Chief Inspector Rebecca Woodsford said: 'Tottenham's tightknit community has experienced the heartbreaking impact of gun crime. The loss of Mahad weighs heavy every day... There is someone out there who knows what happened that night and we are urging those individuals to find it in their heart to come forward.'

She assured potential witnesses that the police can offer protection and support, including arrangements for anonymous testimony.

In a poignant appeal, Mr Mohammed's youngest sister stated: 'To stay silent is to be complicit... My brother deserves better. He deserves justice.' She highlighted the ongoing suffering of his mother and his young son, who faces growing up without knowing the truth about his father's death.

Alexa Loukas, London Regional Manager for Crimestoppers, emphasised the charity's guarantee of anonymity: 'At Crimestoppers, you can share what you know without ever having to reveal your identity, you will never have to speak to the police or give a witness statement.'
