The family of Mahad Abdi Mohamed, a 23-year-old father shot dead in Tottenham in a suspected case of mistaken identity, have issued an emotional plea for information. Mr Mohamed was killed on 20 March at 8.45pm in Waverley Road, Tottenham, after a stolen Mitsubishi Outlander approached and suspects opened fire, striking him multiple times. He died later in hospital. His friend, a 26-year-old man, was also shot in the leg but survived.
Detectives believe the attack was pre-meditated and targeted, but that Mr Mohamed was not the intended victim. Four men were arrested on suspicion of murder in March and April and released on bail pending further inquiries. The vehicle used was found burnt out in Runcorn Close, N17, the following morning.
Detective Chief Inspector Rebecca Woodsford, leading the investigation, urged anyone with information to come forward. “Someone out there knows what happened. That person, or people, must come forward,” she said. “We are interested in hearing from those who saw anything suspicious in Waverley Road on the night of 20 March, or witnessed a silver Mitsubishi Outlander nearby just before 20:45hrs.”
Mr Mohamed’s sister, Amal Abdi Mohamed, described him as a “loving father” to his five-year-old son, who “looked up to him like a superhero”. She said he worked as a security guard at Waterloo Station, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and Royal Ascot, and was planning to marry this summer. “A bullet didn’t just take his life, it tore through our family,” she said. “To stay silent is to be complicit.”
