Carrie Bickmore's Head Injury Cut Artery to Bone

Carrie Bickmore has revealed the terrifying extent of an injury she sustained to her head while taking a break from work. Sharing an update on her Instagram, the 45-year-old said she cut an artery after running into a wall, with the wound reaching the bone.

After revealing that the moment looked like a 'crime scene', Carrie said on Wednesday that she has since undergone treatment for muscle and nerve damage. Taking to her stories with a photo showing her skull wrapped in a bandage, the radio star shared graphic details about her accident in the caption.

'So it appears I cut [my scalp] to the bone and cut an artery,' she began. 'So the surgeon had to repair nerve and muscle damage! Hurts so much, but on the mend now.'

Originally posting about her mishap on Monday, Carrie shared grisly photos of her open wound, explaining she had 'walked into the corner of a wall'. An enormous gash had opened up on her head as a result, with Carrie describing the moment in gory detail.

'Walked into the corner of the wall over the break. Looked like a crime scene. Blood spurting from my head,' she wrote. 'Got it glued back together so I could go on holiday with my family the next day. Turns out I have hit a nerve. Healing terribly. And hurting. Also randomly had a lady drop her carry-on suitcase on my head. God, it hurt.'

Carrie went on to reveal she now will have her head fixed properly by a plastic surgeon. 'Scars are hot, yeh?' she added. The former Project host then joked she now had a 'face for radio', but told fans she would make a TV appearance on Seven's Celebrity Intervention tonight.

Carrie's famous friends flocked to the comments of the post to wish the radio star well, with Ellidy Pullen kicking off the messages by writing: 'Ohhhhh no.' 'Hectic. Poor thing xx,' Anna Robards added. Rove McManus commented simply: 'YIKES.' Gogglebox star Anastasia Katselas told Carrie to 'get well soon'. Jacqueline Felgate soon joined the chorus, writing: 'Omg! You did a number!' 'Ouch! But yeah, earn your scars, it could look sick! I had one on my neck which has become a part of me and a good story. Get better soon honey,' wrote Michelle Bridges. 'Rest up and heal well. That’s a lot,' Rob Mills penned.
