Emergency services rushed to the Trafford Centre in Manchester on Saturday evening after a significant fire broke out in one of its busy car parks, damaging multiple vehicles.
Emergency Response and Firefighting Efforts
The incident was reported at around 6:45 pm on Saturday, November 8. Two fire engines from Sale and Salford fire stations were immediately dispatched to the scene, located in a car park near the John Lewis store.
Upon arrival, crews from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) found a car fully alight, with the flames having spread to two other vehicles. Dramatic pictures from the scene showed flames leaping above the cars and smoke billowing through the area, close to a Christmas tree illumination.
Firefighters used breathing apparatus and two hose reels to tackle the blaze and quickly extinguished the flames. They remained at the location afterwards to ensure the area was safe.
Eyewitness Accounts and Aftermath
An eyewitness reported that the car park was locked off to allow both fire crews and paramedics to work unimpeded.
A spokesperson for GMFRS confirmed that all three vehicles involved were petrol-powered. Fortunately, despite the intensity of the fire and the crowded location, no one was injured in the incident.
The cause of the original fire is not yet known, but authorities have stated that it is not being treated as suspicious or deliberate.
