Brothers Accused of Systematically Grooming 12-Year-Old Girl for Sex in Sheffield
Two brothers allegedly systematically groomed a vulnerable 12-year-old girl for sexual acts in Sheffield during the mid-2000s, a court has been told. Prosecutors at Sheffield Crown Court detailed how Kamar Ilyas, now 39, and Kamran Ilyas, now 38, engaged in sexual activity with the child after she consumed alcohol and smoked cannabis.
Detailed Allegations Presented in Court
Prosecutor Paul Abrahams informed the jury on Monday that the brothers targeted the young girl when she was just 12 years old. According to the prosecution, Kamar Ilyas, known by the nickname Nasser, had the girl perform a sex act on him in bushes at Meersbrook Park. Further allegations include another sexual act near Heeley City Farm and intercourse in a car parked near the Ivory Hotel.
For Kamran Ilyas, referred to as Kammy K, the prosecution claims he had sex with the girl in a bedroom of a flat where she had been drinking and smoking. It is alleged that he first removed her trousers in the living room to show off her body. Additional incidents reportedly occurred on a bench in Millennium Park when the girl stated she was 13 years old.
Defence Denials and Legal Proceedings
Both brothers have entered not guilty pleas to all charges. Defence lawyer Puneet Grewal, representing Kamar Ilyas, stated her client denies ever knowing or meeting the complainant, and refutes using the nickname Nasser or any sexual involvement. Stephen Spence, defending Kamran Ilyas, said his client denies any sexual contact and disputes the identification.
Judge Peter Hampton clarified to the jury that consent is not an issue in this case, given the victim's age. The charges include:
- Kamar Ilyas: Two counts of raping a child under 13 and two counts of engaging in penetrative sexual activity with a child.
- Kamran Ilyas: Two counts of engaging in sexual activity with a girl aged 13-15 when under 18, and two alternative counts for when aged 18 or over.
Supporting Evidence and Witness Testimonies
The prosecution plans to call women who were friends with the girl at the time, who will testify about her apparent sexual relationship with someone named Kammy. One friend maintained a diary with entries indicating the girl was involved in sexual activity with unidentified males during that period.
Prosecutor Abrahams highlighted the girl's vulnerability, noting she distinctly recalls Kamran Ilyas asking if she was going to grow breasts. The case continues as the jury deliberates on the evidence presented in this disturbing child protection matter.
