A body has been discovered on the Berwyn Mountains after a significant search operation for a missing hiker. North Wales Police were alerted on Sunday evening due to concerns about an overdue walker who had been in the mountain range in north-east Wales.
Search and Rescue Operation
Police requested assistance from the North East Wales Search and Rescue (NEWSAR) team, who deployed volunteers to conduct an extensive search across the difficult and steep terrain. The missing walker's body was later located and recovered by team members.
A spokesperson for NEWSAR stated: "On Sunday evening we were contacted by @northwalespolice requesting our assistance with an overdue walker in the Berwyns. The team carried out an extensive search over difficult and steep terrain."
Recovery Efforts
"Sadly, the individual was located by the team and recovered with the utmost care and respect. This was a long and challenging operation lasting several hours. As always, it was handled with professionalism, compassion, and determination by all involved," the spokesperson added.
The team expressed gratitude: "A huge thank you to our team members for their efforts, as well as partner agencies who assisted during the search. The team finally stood down in the early hours, with many volunteers heading straight back to their day jobs."
