Barron Trump, the youngest son of US President Donald Trump, alerted London police after witnessing a woman allegedly being attacked by a former boyfriend, potentially saving her life, a court heard on Wednesday.
The then-18-year-old was on a video call with the woman, who cannot be named, when he saw Matvei Rumiantsev, 22, repeatedly punch her, Snaresbrook Crown Court was told. Trump called police at 2:23 am on 18 January 2025, telling the operator: 'I just got a call from a girl I know. She’s getting beaten up.'
Rumiantsev, of east London, faces charges including two counts of rape, intentional strangulation, perverting the course of justice, assault, and actual bodily harm. He denies all charges. The court heard he was allegedly jealous of Trump's relationship with the woman.
In the 999 call, Trump provided the woman's address and said: 'It’s really an emergency, please. I got a call from her with a guy beating her up.' He apologised for being rude after refusing to answer some questions, stating: 'I met her on social media. She’s getting really badly beat up and the call was about eight minutes ago.'
When police arrived, bodycam footage captured the woman saying: 'I am friends with Barron Trump, Donald Trump’s son.' An officer responded: 'So apparently this informant from America is likely to be Donald Trump’s son.' During cross-examination, the woman said: 'He helped save my life. That call was like a sign from God at that moment.'
Defence barrister Sasha Wass KC suggested the account was fabricated, but the woman replied: 'I didn’t invent that. That would be completely evil and disgraceful toward people who have been in that situation.' The trial continues.
