Judge Denies Aaron Carter's Mother's Bid to Halt Estate Closure
Aaron Carter's mother, Jane Schenck, has been unsuccessful in her legal challenge against the late singer's former fiancée, Melanie Martin, regarding the distribution of his estate. According to court documents obtained by the Daily Mail, Judge Jessica A. Uzcategui ruled late last month that Carter's estate is insolvent, with debts exceeding remaining assets, and denied Schenck's objection to its closure.
Assets Awarded to Mother of Carter's Son
The judge further ordered that any non-cash assets from the estate be given to Melanie Martin, who is the mother of Carter's four-year-old son, Princeton 'Prince' Lyric Carter. This decision follows a contentious court battle that began after Carter's death in November 2022 at the age of 34.
Schenck had filed an objection in February, alleging that Martin illegally withdrew $24,530 from Carter's bank accounts shortly after his death, with withdrawals occurring between November 7 and November 29, 2022. She also accused the estate administrator, Aileen B. Federizo, of being partial to Martin, citing Federizo's rejection of Schenck's $30,000 offer to purchase Carter's publicity rights without providing a written response.
Complex Family Dynamics and Past Conflicts
Despite these accusations, Schenck acknowledged in her court filing that she believes Martin is a good mother to Prince and cares for his daily needs. She stated she does not wish legal harm upon Martin and accepts some blame for their strained relationship, emphasizing her primary concern is her grandson's well-being.
This is not the first legal dispute involving Schenck and her son. In the early 2000s, Carter filed for emancipation as a teenager, alleging his parents, who served as his managers, had taken over $100,000 of his money without authorization. After his parents' divorce in 2004, Carter dropped the petition, moved in with his father, and the family announced that all financial misunderstandings had been resolved.
Background on Carter's Tragic Death
Aaron Carter was found dead in the bathtub of his home on November 5, 2022. The medical examiner ruled his death an accidental drowning, with contributing factors including inhalation of the refrigerant difluoroethane and consumption of the anti-anxiety medication Xanax. His passing at age 34 marked a tragic end to a life often played out in the public eye.
The Daily Mail has reached out to Schenck, Martin, and Federizo's attorney for comment on the recent ruling. TMZ first reported on the judge's order, which brings a legal resolution to this chapter of the Carter family saga, though emotional and personal ramifications likely persist.
