A former BBC actress is facing life in prison after being charged with attempting to smuggle 320kg of methamphetamine into Australia as part of a £160 million drugs bust in Sydney. Emaa Hussen, best known for her role in the EastEnders spin-off E20 as Naz Mehmet, also appeared alongside Jason Statham in the 2013 film Redemption.
Drugs Hidden in Charcoal Shipment
The 34-year-old star allegedly concealed methamphetamine in bags of charcoal shipped from Ghana in West Africa. The shipment was intercepted by Border Force officers at Port Botany after a tip-off. The drugs were delivered to a storage facility in Girraween, where officers discovered a 'white crystallised substance' that tested positive for methamphetamine.
Arrest and Charges
Hussen is accused of unpacking the drugs with other suspects and driving to a property in Blacktown, where she was arrested. Investigators found 32 bags identical to those containing the drugs at the residence. She has been remanded in custody until her next court appearance in August.
Local police stated: 'The seizure of these drugs – with an estimated street value of $296 million – has prevented a potential 3.2 million deals from reaching Australian streets and demonstrates the AFP's ability to operate seamlessly across borders.'
Hussen faces life imprisonment alongside two Adelaide residents charged with similar offences in April 2026.
