Hotel guest flees after finding sex toy under bed at 2am

A hotel guest was left stunned after discovering a sex toy under his bed while staying overnight at The Royal Hotel in Cardiff. The man immediately left the hotel in the middle of the night, citing disbelief at the room's cleanliness.

Discovery in the early hours

The guest, who was staying at the hotel in May, dropped his phone down the side of his bed at around 2am. While reaching under the bedside cabinet to retrieve it, he found a dildo that had been left in the room.

He said: "This immediately caused me to lose all confidence in the cleanliness and inspection standards of the property. I immediately packed my belongings, got dressed and left the hotel at approximately 02:14."

Previous concerns and complaint

Earlier, the guest had noticed marks on the bedding, which had already raised questions about cleanliness. After discovering the item, he reported the incident to hotel staff and placed the dildo on the reception desk to show what he had found.

Ten days after submitting a complaint, the hotel sincerely apologised for his experience and for the "frustration and inconvenience" caused. In a response on July 8, the hotel offered a full refund for his stay. However, the guest expressed disappointment that he did not also receive compensation for his £12.80 parking charge.

Hotel's response

The hotel explained that the parking facility is independently owned and operated by a third-party provider, so they could not reimburse the cost. They added that the incident had been reviewed at a senior level and taken seriously, detailing how housekeeping standards had been internally reinforced.

The email stated: "Appropriate corrective measures have been implemented internally to reinforce our housekeeping standards and help reduce the likelihood of a similar incident occurring in the future."

The Royal Hotel in Cardiff is operated by Oyo Rooms, whose website claims they are "the world's fastest growing hotel chain." Oyo Rooms has been approached for comment.
