Paul Heyfron, 53, has died from injuries sustained in an attack at Sunshine grocery store in East Finchley, north London, on June 30. The shopkeeper intervened to stop the assault and performed CPR after Heyfron lost consciousness, but he died on July 12.
Attack and Intervention
According to a staff member at Sunshine, two men were outside before entering the shop. An argument escalated into a fight, and Heyfron, a regular customer, ended up unconscious on the floor. The shop owner stopped the attack, sustaining a minor injury himself, and administered CPR as Heyfron was not breathing. The staff member described the owner as a hero, noting Heyfron was their best customer and a really nice man who lived locally and was always friendly.
Investigation and Community Response
Detective Inspector John Moseling confirmed a murder investigation has been launched. Officers are reviewing CCTV footage from the shop, which captured the entire incident. Extra police patrols have been dispatched to the area, and flowers have been left in tribute. A friend of the victim expressed devastation, saying everyone in the community knew Paul.
Police urge anyone with information, CCTV, or doorbell camera footage to contact them on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. They also caution against engaging with online speculation.
