Four-year-old Olive Farrow, described by her family as 'cheeky, funny and sassy,' died after being struck by a vehicle in the village of Gotham, Nottinghamshire. Emergency services were called to Nottingham Road at approximately 2:28 pm on Sunday, July 12, following reports of a collision between a vehicle and a young girl. Olive was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival.
Family Remembers Olive's Vibrant Personality
In a heartfelt statement, Olive's family paid tribute to the toddler's big personality and creativity. 'Olive was a cheeky, funny and sassy little girl, who may have been tiny in size, but she certainly made up for it with her big personality. Not a day went by without Olive singing and dancing her way round the house and spreading her affection; always kissing and cuddling and going out of her way to be kind to everyone,' the family said.
They highlighted her artistic nature, noting, 'Olive's memory will live on with all the colourful paintings we have around the house. Quite often she would take herself off and come back with a beautiful work of art as she was so creative.' Olive had two brothers, Teddy and Sonny, and was due to join Sonny at primary school, having already attended taster sessions. 'She was so excited to be joining her brother there,' the family added.
Community Support and Ongoing Investigation
The family expressed gratitude for the community's support, stating, 'We would like to thank the community for coming together to support us through this difficult time. It has helped greatly to see the outpouring of love with the messages and flowers laid on Nottingham Road.' A vigil was organized at St Lawrence's Church in Gotham.
Nottinghamshire Police confirmed that a 59-year-old man has been arrested and bailed on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. Sergeant Paul Clark, leading the investigation, said: 'This is a deeply tragic incident, and our thoughts continue to be with Olive's loved ones at this unimaginably difficult time.' He urged the public not to speculate on social media and to respect the family's privacy, especially during the vigil. Anyone with information is asked to contact police quoting incident 424 of 12 July.
