Coronation Street fans have hailed what they call a 'genius' decision regarding Brody Michaelis as a character, after he found himself accused amid Betsy Swain's stroke nightmare. Emotional scenes in the ITV soap this week saw Ryan Connor discover the unconscious teen on the kitchen floor at No.6 Coronation Street, leading to a frantic Carla Connor-Swain being taken to her wife, Lisa Connor-Swain, as they kept vigil by Betsy's bedside.
Stroke Diagnosis and Second Attack
Doctors confirmed that Betsy had suffered a stroke caused by a blood clot, resulting from neck artery damage due to temporary loss of circulation. After her condition appeared to stabilize, Betsy suffered a second stroke while being visited by her boyfriend, Dylan Wilson. Following further tests, an embarrassed Betsy revealed that Dylan had strangled her during consensual sex, though both believed the pressure applied was minimal. Lisa was horrified and later reported Dylan to the police, despite Betsy's pleas not to blame him.
Brody's Support and Accusations
In Thursday's episode, Betsy's results confirmed aphasia and dysarthria, but doctors were hopeful for a good recovery. Despite this, Betsy was devastated to learn her mother had reported Dylan. Dylan later speculated to his father, Sean Tully, that Betsy could have cheated, pointing out that Brody had 'been after' Betsy and visited her in the morning before her health crisis. Brody was seen spending time with Betsy at the hospital, sharing a sweet moment where he opened up about his own life and supported her as she expressed upset over Dylan being reported. However, when Lauren arrived, she told Betsy that Dylan was accusing her of cheating with Brody.
Fan Reactions to Brody's Role

He's become such a likeable character under their guidance and this scene was beautiful.' @Robyn_P22 responded: 'Totally agree, I love him!' @_sammymfs added: 'Brody trying to comfort Betsy by opening up about the things he saw growing up was so sad, not sure what part he'll play in this story going forward but this was really moving.'
