Transport for Wales has cancelled numerous train services across Wales on Saturday due to severe weather, as a scorching heatwave reduces the number of available trains and affects air conditioning systems.
Affected routes and cancellations
All Transport for Wales services between Newport and Ebbw Vale Town are cancelled in both directions for the rest of Saturday, from early morning until 11:59pm. The operator attributes the disruption to extreme heat reducing the number of trains available to operate between Pye Corner and Ebbw Vale Town.
Trains between Cardiff Central and Ebbw Vale Town continue to run, and passengers are advised to travel via Cardiff and Newport where possible. Local Stagecoach and Newport Bus services accept rail tickets on several routes.
West Midlands and west Wales disruptions
All Transport for Wales trains between Wolverhampton and Birmingham International are cancelled until 8pm, with services starting and terminating at Wolverhampton while air conditioning systems are checked. Passengers travelling towards Birmingham can use CrossCountry and Avanti West Coast services at no extra cost.
In west Wales, no trains operate between Machynlleth and Aberystwyth for the remainder of Saturday. Replacement travel is available on Lloyds Coaches' T2 and T28 bus services.
Chester to Wrexham General
Passengers travelling between Chester and Wrexham General are warned to expect cancellations throughout the day due to a shortage of trains caused by extreme heat.
Transport for Wales says engineering teams are working to ensure onboard air conditioning systems are fully operational, but the high temperatures have reduced the number of trains available to run.
