Stockport trains cancelled after overhead line damage

All trains to and from Stockport have been stopped due to overhead line damage, rail bosses have announced. Network Rail said the issue means services are not running to and from Stockport, which sits on the West Coast Mainline.

Emergency repairs underway

Emergency repair works are currently taking place with disruption set to last until 10am. Network Rail said: "There has been extensive damage to the overhead line equipment in the Stockport area. To allow repairs to be carried out, all lines have been closed."

Operators affected

There are no services on Northern, Avanti West Coast and CrossCountry between Manchester Piccadilly to Wilmslow and Stoke-on-Trent. Transpennine Express, Transport for Wales and East Midlands Railway services are also hit.

Coaches are being laid on, and passengers can use Bee Network buses.
