Kompany: I loved City but my focus is now on Bayern

Vincent Kompany said he loved playing for Manchester City but that his full focus is now on his role as Bayern Munich head coach when asked about the charges his former club have been found guilty of.

Kompany signed for City in 2008 and won four Premier League titles during a successful spell at the Etihad Stadium.

Guilty verdict on 114 charges

However, those titles are under scrutiny after an independent panel found City guilty of 114 financial charges between 2009 and 2018. The panel accused City of 'sham' contracts involving their owners, as part of a 'disguised funding scheme' that reduced costs by over £900m.

City continue to plead their innocence and have launched an appeal. As of yet, no punishment has been confirmed for the Blues, although fines, points deductions, titles being stripped and immediate demotion from the Premier League have all been speculated as possible outcomes. Were the titles to be stripped from City, Kompany would potentially be left with no Premier League winners' medals to his name.

Kompany's response

Ahead of his side's trip to Augsburg on Saturday, Kompany was asked about the charges verdict. "I'm only thinking about my work at FC Bayern," he said in his pre-match press conference.

"We have important games coming up, and that takes a lot of time. There's not much time to think about other stuff. For me, it's simple, I played 11 years for the club, and I've loved my time there. I'm proud of everything we've achieved as a team. Everything else is currently not in my reality, because I'm here at FC Bayern."

Haaland and Maresca speak out

On Thursday, Erling Haaland and Enzo Maresca spoke about the charges. Haaland urged supporters to remain positive as they look ahead to the trip to Liverpool on Sunday. Meanwhile, Maresca insisted he has trust in the club as the appeal process continues.

Maresca is set to speak to the media on Friday morning.
