Train passengers travelling via the Severn Tunnel are being warned of significant disruption, with cancellations and delays expected to last until the end of the day.
What Happened?
On Tuesday evening, just before 8pm, Great Western Railway reported an obstruction on the track between Newport and Bristol Parkway, leading to the closure of all lines through the Severn Tunnel. The incident prompted warnings of severe disruption to services heading to Bristol Parkway and Temple Meads, with Severn Tunnel Junction and Patchway not being served.
Current Status
All lines have now reopened, but disruption is expected to persist throughout the day. This could impact thousands of concertgoers who travelled to Cardiff to see Take That perform.
What Great Western Railway Says
Great Western Railway has confirmed that all lines are open but cautioned passengers that as services recover, trains may still be cancelled, delayed by up to 30 minutes, or diverted. Some trains may divert via Lydney in Gloucestershire, meaning they will not call at Patchway or Bristol Parkway.
Alternative Travel Options
Customers can use their tickets at no extra cost on CrossCountry or Transport for Wales services between Cheltenham Spa/Gloucester and Newport (South Wales)/Cardiff Central. Rail replacement transport has also been requested.
