Lawsuit Alleges Negligence in Fatal Air Ambulance Crash

The families of two of the eight people killed when an air ambulance crashed in Philadelphia earlier this year have filed a wrongful death lawsuit, claiming the medical air transport company acted negligently.

The legal case was filed on Monday, 17th November 2025, by the estates of Dr. Raul Meza Arredondo, a paediatrician, and Lizeth Murillo Osuna. Ms. Osuna was the mother of a girl who was returning home to Mexico after receiving treatment at a hospital in Philadelphia.

Details of the Tragic Incident

The devastating event occurred on 31st January. The Learjet 55, bound for Tijuana, Mexico, took off from Northeast Philadelphia Airport. Approximately one minute after takeoff, it crashed into a busy residential area near the Roosevelt Mall in the Rhawnhurst neighbourhood.

The plaintiffs describe a harrowing scene, alleging the aircraft "erupted in a massive explosion that engulfed multiple vehicles and houses and sent fiery debris raining down on terrified and helpless bystanders."

Tragically, all six people on board the jet perished. The crash also claimed the lives of two people on the ground and left more than twenty others injured.

Investigation and Legal Action

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has revealed a critical setback in its investigation. The plane's voice recorder was not functioning, and the crew made no distress calls to air traffic control prior to the impact.

The lawsuit names the Guadalajara-based air ambulance company, Med Jets, S.A. de C.V., which operates under the name Jet Rescue, as a defendant. Also named are other unspecified parties responsible for the aircraft's design, manufacture, maintenance, and inspection.

Both Dr. Arredondo and Ms. Osuna were Mexican citizens. Dr. Arredondo resided in Atizapan de Zaragoza, while Ms. Osuna lived in Ensenada.

Attempts to reach Jet Rescue for comment on Monday were unsuccessful. Messages were left for a company spokesman, lawyers representing Med Jets in a related federal case, and a Jet Rescue Air Ambulance facility located in Florida.
