Jet2 has officially confirmed its baggage regulations for passengers travelling with young children, providing clarity that can significantly simplify family journeys. While many customers may already be aware that the airline offers an additional luggage allowance for those with infants, Jet2 has now emphasised its pushchair policy, designed to assist parents as they navigate through airports.
Pushchair Usage Until Boarding
In a recent social media post, Jet2 explained that parents are not required to drop off their pushchairs at the airport's bag drop counter. Instead, families using a collapsible buggy can continue to utilise it until they reach either the air bridge or the steps leading to the aircraft. This policy aims to reduce stress and enhance convenience for parents managing young children during travel.
Customer Inquiry and Response
The airline's clarification came in response to a direct query from a customer on X, formerly known as Twitter. A parent named Tracy reached out to @Jet2tweets, asking about using a Doona pram for her one-year-old son during an upcoming flight. She inquired whether the pushchair could be used up to the boarding gate before being placed in the hold or if it needed to be handed over at baggage drop.
Jet2 team member Josh promptly replied, stating, "Hi Tracy, thanks for getting in touch. You are able to use this all the way up until the plane." This interaction highlights the airline's commitment to addressing passenger concerns and providing transparent information.
Additional Baggage Allowances and Equipment
According to Jet2's frequently asked questions section on its website, passengers travelling with an infant under two years old receive an extra 10kg allowance on top of the standard 22kg hold bag for the accompanying adult. Furthermore, parents are permitted to take two items of equipment per child to be carried in the hold free of charge. Eligible items include collapsible pushchairs, car seats, baby back carriers, or travel cots.
Jet2 explicitly notes, "For your convenience, you can take your collapsible pushchair or buggy all the way to the plane steps or air bridge, where we’ll put it in the hold, and you can retrieve it at baggage reclaim." This ensures that families can maintain mobility and comfort throughout the airport process.
Important Considerations and Limitations
Customers should be aware of certain restrictions when travelling with multiple items. Jet2 advises passengers to inform the airline if they are carrying more than one piece of equipment, as this may require adjustments to pre-booked transfers. In some cases, families might need to switch to a private transfer at an additional cost to accommodate the extra items.
Weight limits also apply to these equipment items. Each piece must not exceed 32kg, and any additional items or weight beyond the allocated allowance will be subject to standard excess baggage charges. This ensures safety and compliance with aviation regulations while maintaining flexibility for families.
By clearly outlining these policies, Jet2 aims to foster a smoother travel experience for parents and young children, reducing uncertainties and promoting efficient airport navigation. Families are encouraged to review the detailed guidelines on the airline's website to fully prepare for their journeys.
