Dreame Cyber X: Robot Vacuum Transporter That Climbs Stairs Unveiled

Robot vacuums have become increasingly capable, handling deep-pile carpets and mopping corners, but stairs remain a persistent obstacle. Dreame aims to solve this with the Cyber X, a stair-climbing robot unveiled at a launch event in Paris last week.

The Cyber X is not a vacuum itself but a transport system for compatible robot vacuums, carrying them between floors. It uses four tracked climbing arms that unfold when it reaches a staircase, gripping each step to ascend or descend. Dreame claims it can handle straight, spiral, open-riser, and carpeted staircases, climbing slopes up to 42 degrees and obstacles up to 35cm high.

The Independent's deputy IndyBest editor Sabrina Sahota saw the Cyber X in action. “I was very sceptical when I first heard about Dreame's stair-climbing robot vacuum, but I was impressed when I saw how well it coped with an incline,” she said. She noted it is bulky and may not suit small staircases, but it moved smoothly and its brushes cleaned each step efficiently.

The Cyber X was announced alongside Dreame's X60 pro series robot vacuums. The flagship X60 pro ultra complete costs £1,299 and launches in July, featuring a robotic arm for extending brushes under furniture, upgraded AI cameras, 42,000Pa suction, and a hot-water mop cleaning system. Other models include the X60 pro master (£1,399) and X60 pro ultra matrix (£1,499), the latter with an automated dock that swaps mop types per room.

UK pricing for the Cyber X is unconfirmed, but European pricing suggests €1,199 (around £1,030) when it launches in September. Competitors include Roborock's saros rover, announced at CES earlier this year, which can climb stairs independently.
