A holidaymaker drove a white car along a narrow cliff footpath designed only for walkers after making a wrong turn during a seaside break on the Gower Peninsula. The incident occurred on Monday on a route between Limeslade and Rotherslade that had been relaid less than a year ago at a cost of £80,000 as part of an upgrade of the Wales Coastal Path, aimed at improving accessibility for wheelchair users and families.
Driver Stopped by Stunned Walkers
The lost driver turned onto the coastal path after a tyre blew out. Stunned walkers stopped the car, helped change the tyre, and guided the driver back to the road. South Wales Police reported that a Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) attended the scene, but by the time they arrived, the car had already left.
No Damage Found
Swansea Council confirmed that its countryside access team visited the path the following day and found no damage. The council stated that the path remained in good condition despite the unusual incident.
