Wizz Air to Trial Premium 'Wizz Class' Seats with Middle Seat Blocked

Low-cost airline Wizz Air is launching a trial of a new premium seating option called 'Wizz Class', offering passengers more space and priority boarding for an additional fee. The trial will begin in December on routes from London, Rome, Warsaw, Bucharest and Budapest, according to airline executive Michael Delehant.

The 'Wizz Class' ticket includes blocking the middle seat for extra elbow and leg room, priority boarding, a carry-on bag, and overhead bin space. However, it does not include complimentary food or drink. Delehant stated that the price will never exceed the cost of buying an extra seat, emphasising it is 'not meant to be a money-grab.'

Commercial officer Silvia Mosquera said the trial responds to demand from travellers seeking more space and comfort, particularly business passengers who value low-cost options with additional room. The airline currently offers only front row and exit row seats with extra legroom, and passengers must purchase an extra seat for items like musical instruments.

Wizz Air joins other budget carriers moving towards premium offerings. US airlines like Southwest and JetBlue have introduced similar options, while European rivals Ryanair and easyJet allow customers to book extra seats or choose seats with more legroom for a fee.
