UK's Top 10 Dog Names for 2022 Announced: Luna Leads

The UK's most popular dog names for 2022 have been revealed, with Luna taking the top spot. The research, conducted by pet insurance provider ManyPets, analysed data from 510,000 pet owners to compile the list.

Brits draw inspiration from various sources for pet names. Fourteen percent prefer human names like Colin or Dave, while nine percent name their pets after celebrities. Seven percent take names from the kitchen cupboard, such as Honey and Crumpet.

The study also crowned the Labrador as the UK's favourite dog breed for 2022, maintaining its popularity since 2017. Spaniels and cockapoos rounded out the top three. Two in five Brits choose a breed based on appearance, while 38 percent consider good behaviour and 34 percent look for dogs good with children.

Cost remains a factor, with an average 18 percent decrease in puppy prices since the lockdown boom in 2021. Jack Russells are the cheapest, averaging £685. ManyPets CEO Oke Eleazu advised choosing a one or two-syllable name for easier recognition.
